Roscommon Roscommon racecourse is steeped in National Hunt tradition. The first ever-recorded race meeting took place in 1837 and was organised by the British military, which then had a base in the town. Racing proper began in 1885 and has continued ever since, with the exception of a 12-year period from 1936 to 1948.
