History Race meetings were held frequently in Killarney on two different racecourses between the years 1827 and 1901. In 1936, after a lapse of 35 years, racing was resumed at the present racecourse. Killarney's celebrated four day Summer Festival commenced in 1947. The races are run along the bank of the River Flesk on ground where the Fianna (Celtic Warriors) roamed over 2000 years ago.

Throughout the years a host of famous people and international celebrities have enjoyed their visit to Killarney races, particularly the Summer Festival meeting.
